Leading U.S. movie theater chain AMC is set to add the meme-inspired cryptocurrency Shiba Inu ($SHIB) payments in 60 to 120 days, according ot the company’s CEO Adam Aron, who revealed the move on social media.

According to Aron, cryptocurrency payment processor BitPay is adding Shiba Inu “specifically” because he asked them to so AMC could accept the meme-inspired cryptocurrency for online payments of movie tickets and concessions.

As CryptoGlobe reported, AMC has been working on adding the meme-inspired cryptocurrency after Aron published a poll on Twitter that saw the SHIBArmy rally in favor of it. The company added bitcoin, ether, and other cryptocurrencies for online payments last week and is set to accept SHIB rival Dogecoin for gift cards worth up to $200 per day.

The addition of Shiba Inu is coming after Aron published a second Twitter poll that saw  81.4% of the 153,000 people who responded noted SHIB should “for sure” be added as a payment method.

In AMC’s latest earnings call, Aron had said the firm was exploring adding Shiba Inu as a payment method before revealing it’s exploring whether it is feasible for it to launch its own cryptocurrency.

At the time the CEO said the movie theater chain is also “in conversations” with numerous Hollywood studios about “the concept of joint venturing commemorative NFTs [non-fungible tokens] related to major film titles” that show in its theaters.
