Jane Castor, the mayor of Tampa, Florida, has announced that she will be accepting her salary in Bitcoin.

According to multiple sources who attended the recent Florida Bitcoin & Blockchain Summit (November 4-5, 2021), Castor has announced that she would accept a challenge to take her pay in Bitcoin moving forward. The comments were made on day two of the summit, which was held in Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa.

Eventgoers said Castor would be working with crypto lending platform Celsius Network in order to facilitate the payments.

Castor’s comments followed on the heels of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announcing that he would take his next paycheck entirely in BTC, marking a first for mayors in the country.

Eric Adams, New York City’s newly elected mayor, has also announced that he would be receiving his first three paychecks entirely in Bitcoin. Adams said it was his goal to make New York City the “center of the cryptocurrency industry.”

Bitcoin bull Anthony Pompliano noted that 4 mayors across the country have now agreed to take their paycheck in Bitcoin, with a call-to-action for the community to ask more elected officials to follow suit.
