Dutch journalist and television host Jort Kelder exposed a bitcoin scammer on video over Skype after discovering the fraudster was inappropriately using his likeness.

Bitcoin Scammer Called Out Over Skype

Crypto scammers have been creative of late, using the likeness of celebrities and other well-known individuals to drive advertisement and fraud.

According to an investigation by Dutch news outlet Brandpunt+, several companies have been implicated in the improper use of imagery to drive crypto scams. Kelder, who was able to discover one such fraudster using his likeness in his advertisements, called out the man over Skype in a video that was published to YouTube Oct. 2.

In the video, Kelder accuses the man of using his face in fake news articles that appear to be endorsing the purchase of bitcoin and other crypto-assets. The advertisements attempt to lure victims by asking them to invest in the bitcoin equivalent of a get-rich-quick-scheme, including headlines such as “the most recent investment from Jordan Kelder surprises experts and frightens large banks.”

Kelder was able to confront one of the scammers, asking him to “stop this kind of business.” The Dutch journalist concludes the interaction by saying,

Bye, bye, I’ll see you in jail.

Brandpunt+ believes the scammers are located out of the Czech Republic. Earlier in the year, it was reported that Big Brother founder John De Mol was suing Facebook over similar false adverts using his likeness after the social media company failed to take proper action against the scam artists.
