Earlier today, in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Charles Hoskinson, the co-founder of Ethereum and founder of Cardano, shed light on a phenomenon he calls “Charles Derangement Syndrome” (CDS). Hoskinson’s 10-point list dissects the characteristics and behaviors of individuals who may be affected by this condition.

“Charles Derangement Syndrome” (CDS) is a term coined by Hoskinson, Co-Founder and CEO of Input Output Global (IOG), the main blockchain technology firm responsible for the research and development of the Cardano protocol. It is a satirical reference to the term “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS is a pejorative term coined by supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump to describe what they perceive as the irrational and excessive criticism, hatred, or negative reactions towards Trump by his political opponents, the media, or the general public.

The term suggests that individuals who exhibit “Trump Derangement Syndrome” are so consumed by their dislike for Trump that they are unable to think rationally or objectively about his policies, actions, or statements. It implies that these individuals react to Trump with unwarranted or disproportionate hostility, often attributing to him malicious intentions or exaggerating the negative consequences of his decisions.

However, it is important to note that “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is not a medically recognized condition or a formal diagnosis. It is a politically charged term used to discredit or dismiss criticism of Trump and his administration. Critics argue that the term is used to deflect legitimate concerns and to characterize any opposition to Trump as irrational or unfounded.

Dr. Hoskinson is a well-known figure in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry. He is best known for co-founding Ethereum and Cardano.

Hoskinson was one of the original founders of Ethereum, alongside Vitalik Buterin and others. He worked on the project from its early stages in 2013 until 2014. After leaving Ethereum, Hoskinson co-founded IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) — which was later rebranded to Input Output Global (IOG) — in 2015.

Hoskinson is known for his academic approach to blockchain development. Cardano is built on peer-reviewed research and formal verification, which aims to provide a high level of security and stability. He is a strong advocate for decentralization and believes in the potential of blockchain technology to create more transparent, fair, and inclusive systems.

Hoskinson is a frequent speaker at blockchain and cryptocurrency conferences and events, where he shares his vision for the future of the industry and the potential applications of blockchain technology. He is also involved in various philanthropic projects, including working with developing countries to explore how blockchain can be used to improve access to education and financial services.

According to Hoskinson’s post on X, the first sign of CDS is the tendency to interpret all events involving him in the worst possible light. Those suffering from CDS often disregard Hoskinson’s decade-long history and significant accomplishments in the blockchain industry, choosing instead to focus on negative aspects.

Hoskinson argues that people with CDS exaggerate the opinions of others in the space, portraying a universally opposing viewpoint towards him. They also tend to cite tell-all books as absolute facts while ignoring any obvious absurdities, such as the “Apache jumping” reference.

Another characteristic of CDS, as described by Hoskinson, is the belief that all of his supporters must either be part of a cult or actively manipulated. Those with CDS may fabricate information and see if it gains traction, while also becoming irrationally angry when others express a liking for Hoskinson.

Hoskinson suggests that individuals with CDS view any venture he undertakes as a scam or an elaborate ego trip. They may write misleading and dramatic content on various platforms, including Reddit, blog posts, YouTube videos, and in the media.

At the core of CDS, according to Hoskinson, is the genuine belief that he is a manipulative, sociopathic monster who seeks to harm as many people as possible to compensate for a brittle ego. Hoskinson warns that CDS can affect anyone at any time and is an incurable condition that can only be managed.

In a lighthearted conclusion, Hoskinson suggests that if someone suspects an individual is suffering from CDS, they should send them his whiteboard video and a “hosky plushie” as a form of support.
