Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana (aka “D&G”) is expanding its non-fungible token (NFT) collection via an ongoing partnership with Polygon-powered NFT marketplace UNXD.

According to a report by U.Today, Dolce & Gabbana has announced an expansion of their NFT line following the successful launch of its historic “Collezione Genesis,” collection in September 2021.

On 4 October 2021, the Italian firm first mentioned the upcoming launch of the Dolce & Gabbana DGFamily NFT Community.

The expansion will be done in collaboration with UNXD, a curated NFT marketplace for luxury digital items. The expansion is being dubbed part of the “DGFamily NFT community,” and will use UNXD’s platform which is built upon the Polygon network.

Yesterday (February 25), D&G and UNXD talked on Twitter Spaces about the DGFamily and its upcoming sale.

Dolce & Gabbana’s initial collection involved the launch of nine NFTs, including the wildly popular “Doge Crown.” The digital item, designed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, featured seven blue sapphires and 142 diamonds. Five of the original pieces were physical creations, with the virtual iteration hosted by UNXD for the metaverse.

The collection, which sold to a mix of private collectors and designer organizations, netted the iconic fashion company more than $5.5 million.

Nick Jushchyshyn, program director for virtual reality and immersive media at Drexel Universty, said at that time that the seven-figure sale was “not surprising.” Jushchyshyn noted the impact of world-renowned designers embracing the digital sphere and creating something unique, calling the collection a “one of one.”
