A cryptocurrency enthusiast has gone the extra mile to show his support by naming his son after his favorite project Cardano.

According to a report by CNBCTV18, “an Indian pay television business and financial news channel owned by NBCUniversal and TV18”, Cardano fan and Twitter user “Bruno” (Twitter handle @Brunokarno1) announced in a tweet that he had named his first son (who was born on November 25) Cardano, alongside an accompanying photo of the newborn.

Charles Hoskinson, co-founcer and CEO of IOHK (aka “IOG”), the blockchain technologly firm responsible for Cardano’s R&D, retweeted the announcement, welcoming baby Cardano to the world.

Users responded to the naming with mixed reactions, with some pointing out that it was no different than other eyebrow-raising name choices such as Walmart or Facebook. Other users pointed out that the Cardano project, and therefore the newborn, was named after the renowned Italian physicist, mathematician and physician Gerolamo Cardano.

One tongue-in-cheek poster asked whether the child had been given a middle name before suggesting “network.”

While crypto has become well-known for its zealous and enthusiastic fan base, this appears to be the first time in history a newborn has been named after the Cardano project.

In December 2017, according to a report by “Russia Beyond”, a family from Simferopol (in Crimea) named their newborn son “Bitcoin”. The father said this decision was due to the “huge influence Bitcoin had on the family’s financial state”, and they just wanted to “express their gratitude” to the crypto market.
