A fake crypto scam is using the likeness of popular podcast host Joe Rogan to trick users into entering a bitcoin giveaway.

According to an update by popular Twitter bot Whale Alert, which also operates the new service Scam Alert, fraudsters have set up a website offering a free giveaway for bitcoin. The site uses the false endorsement of Rogan and right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro in order to trick users into believing the product is legitimate.

The site reads,

Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro believe that blockchain and bitcoin will make the world more fair. To speed up the process of cryptocurrency mass adoption, We decided to run 5 000 BTC giveaway.

Users are asked to send “0.1 BTC to 10 BTC” in order to be eligible for the giveaway, with the potential to receive “0.2 BTC to 20 BTC in return. According to Whale Alert, at least one victim has already made a payment of 1.0 BTC ($9300) to the scammer’s address.
