This article provides details of the dinner Justin Sun, Co-Founder and CEO of TRON Foundation, had with billionaire Warren Buffett, Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, on January 23.

Background to Sun’s Meeting With Buffett

On 3 June 2019, Sun sent out a tweet to announce that he had won “the record-setting 20th anniversary charity lunch” hosted by Buffett.

According to Bloomberg, this annual auction “raises money for San Francisco-based charity Glide Foundation, which Buffett’s late wife Susan supported” and which “provides meals for the city’s homeless, offers support to domestic violence victims, and helps people find shelter.”

Back in June 20019, in his open letter to the TRON community, Sun said that:

He was a long-term fan of Warren Buffett and his “long-term value investing strategy.”

He saw this upcoming lunch meeting (a victory “for the entire blockchain community”) as a chance to “seek mutual understanding and growth.”

To help the blockchain/crypto community, he would invite seven “industry leaders” to come to this lunch with him.

This lunch meeting was supposed to take place on July 25 at chef Michael Tusk’s three-Michelin-stars-rated San Francisco restaurant Quince. The first four guests to be named were Litecoin creator Charlie Lee, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, Binance Charity Head Helen Hai, and eToro CEO Yoni Assia.

Then, 22 July 2019, TRON Foundation sent out the following tweet to explain that Sun’s meeting with Buffett had had to be postponed due to medical reasons, namely Sun’s kidney stones, and that the two parties had agreed to reschedule this meeting:

Detail of Sun’s Dinner Meeting With Buffett

This much-delayed lunch meeting finally became a dinner meeting on 23 January 2020, but we only found out that this meeting had finally taken place when Sun tweeted about it two weeks after the event (i.e. on February 6):

The dinner took place at Happy Hollow Club, a golf club in Omaha, Nebraska, which is where Buffett lives. Buffett, who is a member of this club, paid $515.05 for the dinner with Sun and his friends (Charlie Lee, Chris Lee, Helen Hai, and Yoni Assia):

Apparently, Sun presented Buffett with several gifts: two Samsung Galaxy Fold phones (which have a built-in crypto wallet supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, and Klaytn), a miniature bronze horse sculpture (since they were both born in the Year of the Horse), and “a traditional Chinese paper cutting of mouse in celebration of the Year of the Mouse 2020”:

During the dinner, Sun discussed a variety of topics with Buffett, a few of which are listed below:

  • Sun’s lunch (on January 21) with Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak;
  • How some of the companies that Buffett has invested in, such as J.P. Morgan are using blockchain technology, and the role of blockchain in the future of the payments industry;
  • Tesla and whether buying Tesla stock is a good investment;

Later today, Sun will be sharing via a live stream on “dlive” the lessons he learned from his meeting with Buffet:
