Tether, the company behind the popular USDT stablecoin, has pledged to donate $1 million to support the victims of Hurricane Dorian, one of the “most powerful storms to hit land anywhere in the Atlantic.”

Tether’s announcement details the donation will be made through the non-profit charitable organization Deltec Cares, which is working to help those affected by the hurricane in the Bahamas. Tether’s post reads:

Deltec Cares is a non-profit charitable organization created to support both the immediate relief efforts and longer-term assistance necessary to help survivors of natural disasters in The Bahamas recover and rebuild. It is made up of volunteer professionals from the Deltec International Group who direct 100% of all funds raised to provide humanitarian aid to those in need.

The stablecoin issuer also called on the cryptocurrency community to support the relief effort by donating to two addresses: one on the Omni layer of the Bitcoin blockchain and one on the Ethereum blockchain.

It’s worth noting Tether has last year confirmed its banking partner is Deltec Bank. Earlier this month, leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance launched a campaign to help victims of the Hurricane Dorian.
