Chinese search giant Baidu has recently announced the launch of the Baidu Blockchain Engine (BBE), an operating system specifically designed for the development of decentralized applications (dApps) that’s set to make their development “as simple as creating a mobile app.”

According to an official announcement published by its Baidu Cloud division, the platform is built using what’s known as an “ABC” technology strategy, meaning it’ll use the functionalities of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing.

The tech giant’s cloud computing unit has claimed the platform is set to help developers build decentralized applications, to the point it’s as “simple as creating a mobile app.” This way, the operating system is set to help grow the commercial use o blockchain technology, allowing for the creation of new blockchain-based products.

The platform is also reportedly looking to address some of the technology’s current shortcomings, including high data storage costs, computing problems, and inefficient single-machine storage. BBE is set to provide developers various services, including multi-chian frameworks, dApp and smart contract templates, and more.

The operating system, which is compatible with Baidu’s private cloud, has reportedly been designed based on several functions, including high performance and throughout, scalable storage, cross-chain interaction, contract security, and more.

Baidu and Blockchain Technology

Large tech companies throughout the world have shown increasing interest in blockchain technology, with Baidu being no exception. The company, often referred to as the Chinese-version of Google, has launched a blockchain-based stock image platform called Totem to protect intellectual rights.

The company has also launched a Chinese version of the Ethereum-based blockchain game CryptoKitties, and has rented server space to TRON, in what was touted by Tron Foundation CEO Justin Sun as a partnership.

Notably, Baidu has also censored cryptocurrency-related discussions on its forums, which have millions of users.
