27-year-old German crypto artist Simon Moratz uses sculpture art to express his passion for cryptocurrencies. In particular, one of his latest pieces, “Why Bitcoin Matters”, which is available for sale via his website, can be purchased only using crypto (BTC, ETH, XMR, or BNB).
Simon is a professional carpenter, and splits his time between Munich, Germany, and Lienz, Austria. Since he already knew how to “build and shape things” with his hands, he decided some time ago that, at least for the time being, the best way he can contribute to the crypto community is by portraying “the way this community thinks, figuratively and naturally.” So, that’s the reason he creates “crypto art.”
The second interesting thing about Simon’s art—currently, he has five sculptures (mostly made of wood and stone) for sale on his website—is that the only form of payment he accepts is cryptocurrency,
And the final unusual thing about his art is that 50% of the price of each of his artworks is donated to the blockchain-powered Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF), which was announced by cryptocurrency exchange Binance in July and started accepting donations in October. Here is Simon explaining why he is doing this:
“The first artwork was completed shortly after Binance unveiled its blockchain-based aid organization. There I decided to donate half of it to the Blockchain Charity Foundation. Because in crypto it is not about making money from others or trying to make a quick fortune on an exchange. This is not the cause, purpose or the reason why we should be in crypto. We should be here for the ideals of crypto which is openness, less power and distribution. That´s how we can share.”

Simon says that this project “started on the 17th of September and it took one and a half month to find all materials in the nature, build and finish it.” On his website, Simon explains the “expressive purpose” of each part of his sculptures. For example, he says that the “stone ring symbolizes the ability to send value globally and borderless,” and that the “colorful stones” at the base of the sculpture represent “every kind of human” (since the Bitcoin network “treats every single person equal and everyone can participate, no matter where you come from, how you look or what you do”).
Other sculptures for sale on Simon’s website are dedicated to Binance (“Binance Advocacy”), Monero (“Monero Flagship”), EOS (“Build on Change”), and TRON (“TRON Acceleration”).
