Earlier today, Changpeng Zhao (also known as “CZ”), the CEO of crypto exchange Binance, made a comment that seemed to hint at the possibility of XRP becoming a base currency at Binance.

At the end of a week that saw XRP overtake Ether (ETH) in terms of market cap to become the second-most valuable cryptocurrency, and on a day that has seen the XRP price surge by over 8% in the past 24-hour period (highest gainer among the top 50 cryptocurrencies), the Binance CEO thrilled the XRP community with the following tweet:

The part of the tweet that mentions the ‘XRP shill base” is referring to previous past attempts by XRP fans on Twitter to get Binance to make XRP a base currency, alongside Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Tether (USDT), and Binance Coin (BNB).

For example, Twitter use “@C3_Nik” made a plea to CZ on 9 August 2018 to make XRP a base currency on Biance. As you can see, so far, this tweet (shown below) has had 1,981 Retweets and 2,391 Likes:

The next day, rating agency Weiss Ratings, supported this plea with the following tweet:

At press time, CZ’s tweet about XRP earlier today (06:38 UTC), has unsurprisingly proven to be extremely popular, gathering so far 1,389 Retweets and 3,234 likes.

It is worth noting that, as covered by CryptoGlobe, on 1 November 2018, Canadian crypto exchange CoinField, which uses XRP as the base currency, announced that it had gone live with 20 trading pairs against XRP. Two other crypto exchanges that support XRP as a base currency are Bitrue and DCEX.
